Hello Galaxie Gang,
I am glad to start a new year. Last year was a tough one with the loss of Allan Broer. He was not only our Club President but a mentor and our brother.
Allan and a few of us spent a lot of time together. With him gone, we feel that a part of our lives is missing. Our last trip together was planned to Bishop for the Fall Colors Car Show. Allan had every intention on going but God had other plans. Allan was strong and had kept a positive outlook to the end.
With Allan gone, the our club has allowed me the honor of being President. I have been in the Club for exactly 10 years but, I still feel like the “new guy”.
I have been blessed with some beautiful lifetime friends in this club and because of these friendships and the comradery of this group I feel it necessary for the club to continue. I am glad to see the enthusiasm that continues among the “seniors” and the lust for knowledge that motivates the “new” guys. I would also like to congratulate and thank Vice President: Greg de la Peña, Secretary: Steve Cate, Treasurer: Richard Bouman, Activities Chairman: Mark Rice and Co-Newsletter Editors: Jimmy Fikes and Greg de la Peña for “stepping up to the plate”.
As most of you know, Our Club stopped doing our own car shows and have placed our primary focus on the “Fabulous Fords Forever Show”. This year the Fabulous Ford show was going to be held in January 2020 at Knott’s but because of low pre-registration numbers the show was canceled. The All Ford Club Council is now planning an alternative All Ford event at the Irwindale Speedway in June.
For the Month of May we are asked to join the Cougar Car Club at the Fullerton Airport. The show scheduled for Saturday May 9th. Michael Jackson will be attending our meeting on February 23rd with more information. I am hoping to see a good turnout of Club Members and their car at this event.
I am looking froward to seeing all of you at our next meeting at the Sizzler in Torrance on Feb 23rd. Please remember to take pictures of any Galaxies you may see in your travels and mention our club to their owners. My first car in 1969 was a 1964 Galaxie 500 XL. Let’s keep this club and the “Galaxie Legacy” alive!
So Cal Galaxies Prez,
Bob Logan

Allan Broer left us in September.
He was man who loved well.
And a man who was well-loved.
By family, by friends, and by almost anyone who had met him.
He was the ever smiling example of the best of what our club was about. His smile was contagious and he poured his heart into the So Cal Galaxies.
Everyone that had known Allan has a great story of Allan.
Not just an average story but a great one.
Please share your favorite Allan story with others when you have a chance.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Hi Everyone,

Things have been progressing quite well with my health issues. My last visit to my cancer doctor, he informed me that the 2ndPet Scan we took showed that the cancer was gone. Well evidently that was wrong.  I took (4) more chemo treatments and then another Pet Scan, This scan says I have a 3 cm cancer spot on my chest. I’m looking into other alternatives.

We had moved our June meeting from the Sizzler in Torrance on June 30th to June 23rd at the” Forty Ford Day”

car show at La Palma Park in Anaheim. We had several  cars registered for the show and we had several members come join us.

All in all we had a good turnout.

Then we had several members who brought their cars to the Enderly All American Show and some members stop by to visit.

Hope to see everyone at the next meeting.

Your Prez,

Allan Broer

“My mom knew that something was wrong with me and that I must have been a car person.”

The mountain roads outside of downtown Los Angeles don't have much in common with the ovally arenas of stock car racing, but whenever Steve Dauria takes his modified Mercury Marauder out for some exercise on these tangles of asphalt he imbues the place with the spirit of classic NASCAR, from a time when the cars were still ostensibly based on the road-going versions sitting in dealerships awaiting their purchased on the post-race Monday.

Hi Everyone,

Things have been progressing quite well with my health issues. My last visit to my cancer doctor,

he informed me that the Pet Scan we took showed that the cancer was gone. Now he wants me to do

(2)two more Chemo sessions and (1) more Pet Scan.  Thanks for all the prayers.

The Fabulous Fords Forever Show at the new venue “Angels Stadium of Anaheim” was a success from what I

heard from everyone

I made our April 28th meeting at the Sizzler last month. Was great to see everyone again.

We have moved our June meeting from the Sizzler in Torrance on June 30th to June 23rd at the” Forty Ford Day”

Hi Everyone,

Last month I told about my bumps in the road. Since then things have been progressing quite well. I

felt good enough to attend the Ford Council meeting in Irvine on Sat 3-30-19. Bob Logan picked me up.

It was good to see everyone again.

The main topic was the Fabulous Fords Forever Show at the new venue “Angels Stadium of Anahiem”.

The plans seem to be going quite well. Car registrations are at around 1450 so far.

The council also surprised us with a full on hot breakfast buffet. It was much appreciated.

I plan on making our April 28th meetng at the Sizzler this month.

Hi everyone,

Thanks to everyone, our Xmas party was well attended.
Sometimes in our life we run into bumps in the road, well I’ve run into one of those bumps.
I  spent the first three weeks of January in the hospital. It turns out I have Large B Cell Lymphoma.

I start treatments this week and then every 3 to 4 weeks for the next 6 to 8 months.
Your prayers would be much appreciated.
Depending on how I feel when the meetings come up I will try to be there.

Hi everyone,

How is every ones summer been going. Hope you have been able to get in some vacation time. The first week in Aug. I went back to Midwest to visit my brother and my sisters. I also visited the location where I grew up on the farm in Nebr. Low and behold most of the farms are gone and the roads are not maintained. The only thing you see are large fields of grain. The fields looked great but sad that all the farms and country schools as I remembered are not there. I guess that’s progress!!!!

Our next club meeting is Oct 28th hope to see you there.

Bob Logan and Richard Bouman and their wives Becky and Karen attended the“Fall Colors Car Show” on Oct 5th, 6th and 7th in Bishop, Ca. Looking forward to hearing about the show at the Oct meeting. Sneak preview—Bob took 2nd place in his class. I was not able to attend the show as I hurt my right knee and needed treatment on it.

Remember the Nojuqui Falls car show in Solvang, Ca on Nov 4th  is coming up. Think about going. Last year four(4) of us drove up on Saturday and went to the show on Sunday.

It’s getting to that time of the year where we need to start thinking about board members for 2019. If anyone is interested in participating in this way, please step up and take the challenge.

I have been cleaning up the new roof for 62 Galaxie. I have some repair work to do on it before putting it on the car.

If you haven’t sent in your membership renewal now is the time. Thanks to those who submitted their renewals. Welcome back as a member to Greg Cabey w/ his nice 65 Ford 4 Dr HdTp.

(3) three rooms are already spoken for. That leaves (3) three. They are in my name Allan J. Broer. If you want a room just call the number and say you want to register one of my reserved rooms and they will put it in your name. If you do register for one of the rooms call me and let me know 310-418-7264. It’s a great show, try to go this year.

Hi Everyone,

Here’s hoping everyone had a great holidays. Hope you were able to stay clear of colds and flu. My wife and I have battled the cough and flu for a couple of weeks. I had to delay my back surgery till the 24th of Jan. (Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated).
Wishing you a happy and successful New Year in 2018.

We had a great Christmas Party and lunch. It was fun for all. Some great gifts again as usual. I’m glad to announce that our Board Members from 2017 will continue to serve us in 2018. (Including me as President). Just remember this is everyone’s club, not just the board members. We need everyone’s support and help to make it work.

As we start the new year remember to think about events and car shows that we can attend as a group. It would be great if you come up with something if you would help co-ordinate it. Email me or any board member with your ideas. We will work on it together.

I have contacted the Sizzler Restaurant and we are booked for meetings on the following dates: Sundays Feb 18th, Apr 29th and June 24th from 12:00 to 3:00 P.M. At our next meeting we will have to come up with a list of people who will help with parking the Galaxies at The All Ford Show at Knott’s (Remember we have to be at Knotts before 6:00 A.M. and you get a free lunch. At the Feb. meeting we will review the suggested changes we talked about in our Nov meeting.

Remember the purpose of a car club is to “Fix, Preseve and Enjoy our Galaxies (and/or Mercurys-Edsels) and share Them with others”. Note I drive mine every day because it’s my daily driver. It takes me back to when I was 20 yrs old and driving my 61 Black Hy-Po Starliner.

Good Memories!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Here’s hoping everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time when we can reflect on the many blessings we have in our country and our families. Things aren’t always perfect but much better than a lot of places in the world.

We had our Galaxie meeting on Sunday Nov 19th  at the Sizzler in Torrance. Our treasure Richard Bouman was not present as him and his wife Karen were celebrating their 50th Anniversary. Congratulations Richard and Karen!!!!

I opened up the meeting by sharing how I had contacted the presidents of (4)four of the Galaxie clubs in the U.S. of A. to find out how they operated their clubs and other miscellaneous questions. I found out that they operate a little different than we do.

Most of them have a couple of planning meetings where they plan what they are going to do the rest of the year. They do not have monthly meetings but have social gatherings, do car runs, attend some car shows and have a Xmass gathering.

Now remember most of these clubs are in parts of the country where they have winters which are not conducive to automotive events ,so they do car events from spring to fall. Their membership numbers are similar to ours and not everyone participates

in every activity. This got me to thinking about our club and if we should make any changes to the way we operate.

At our meeting I asked the following question and asked everyone present; “Why did you Join the Galaxie Car Club?”  I was pleased with the participation and sharing of their reasons. Here are some of the reasons: “Shared car interest”,  “Technical help with

car problems”, “Going to car shows”,” Friendships are built”, “Looking at each other’s Cars when we get together”. Members were quite open with why they joined the club.  I then asked this Question: “ Are we as a club meeting why you joined the club?”

I got different responses from the members. More car shows, car runs to specific locations, Have social gatherings such as a picnic, some thought we have to many meetings.

I presented to the members some changes Which we talked about last year but didn’t follow thru with: 1. Start having meetings every other month starting in Febr. and ending in Dec with our X-Mas Party. 2. Plan our events for the year and get them on the

calendar after the February meeting. 3. Plan our events so they vary in location so the events are close to a different member in location each time. (Maybe that member can handle organizing it, which would spread the work load) This would maybe get people

involved more in the planning of activities and give members experience for possible Board positions later on.  So everyone do some research and find out what is going on in your area and share that with us at the next meeting. 4. Newsletters to be sent by

E-Mail only (except in places where members do not have e-mail) and would be sent out at the 1st of the month of the meeting month.

We will try to have a short meeting after the X-Mass party on the 10th to discuss these items in preparation for our February Meeting.

Remember the purpose of a car club is to “Fix, Preserve and Enjoy our Galaxies (and/or Mercurys-Edsels) and Share Them with Others” I drive mine every day because it’s my daily driver.

Hi Everyone,

We had our October meeting at the Sizzler in Torrance on Sunday the 29h.  We had (9)nine members present , (2)two spouses and (1)one brother Don Harkey. Our next meeting will be at the Sizzler in Torrance on Sunday Nov 19th  12:00 – 3:00 P.M..

Again it’s that time of the year when we have to consider the board members for 2018. I’m asking everyone to consider how you can fulfil any positions on the board where current board members are not going to continue in that position.

I have been thinking of how we function as a club again. We made some changes last year, dropping the Car Show with Wand and cutting out some meetings. I would like to revisit  how many meetings we do, how often we publish the newsletter  and special outings we do.

Start thinking about these items and we will discuss at the Nov meeting. We need to figure out a way to  get everyone to participate in keeping the Club going and active. The load can’t be on just a few people. Come ready to discuss these issues.

Several members showed an interest in the Nojoqui Falls Car Show Nov 5th at the county park in Solvang, Ca.  A week before the show the weather forecast was for rain that weekend. As it turned out the weekend was fair and sunny. We had (4)four members who went to the show.

Those members were myself (62 Ford Galaxie 500 390), Bob Logan (60 Ford Starliner 390), Steve Cate (65 Ford Galaxie 390) and Mark Rice (69 Ford Galaxie XL 429). See article and pictures in body of newsletter. It was a fun (2)two days.

Note: we will be having our annual Christmas Party at the Sizzler in Torrance on Sunday Dec 10th  12:00 – 3:00 P.M. Gift exchange $25.00---His and Hers as usual

Remember the purpose of a car club is to “Fix, Preserve and Enjoy our Galaxies (and/or Mercurys-Edsels) and Share Them with Others.”  I drive mine every day because it’s my daily driver.

Hi Everyone,

Several members showed an interest in the Nojoqui Falls Car Show Nov 5th at the county park in Solvang, Ca. A week before the show the weather forecast was for rain that weekend. As it turned out the weekend was fair and sunny.

We had (4)four members who went to the show. Those members were myself (62 Ford Galaxie 500 390), Bob Logan (60 Ford Starliner 390), Steve Cate (65 Ford Galaxie 390) and Mark Rice (69 Ford Galaxie XL 429).

We met at 8:00 A.M. in Carson, Ca and headed north on the 405 to the 101 W to Santa Barbara, Ca. We then took Hwy 154over San Marcos Pass to Old Stage Coach Rd. We missed the tunoff and went across the arch bridge to a scenic turnout. (Beautiful view)
We went back up the hill across the Arch Bridge and turned onto Old Stage Coach Road. This was the route used before the Arch Bridge was built in 1963. We stopped a the Cold creek Tavern for lunch. The food was great. The Tri- Tip Steak Sandwich was out of this world.

We then headed west toward Lake Cachuma. We didn’t stop at Lake Cachuma. We then went to Los Olivas for ice cream. Los Olivas is a tourist town. Parking was an issue. We then headed for Lompoc passing thru Buellton to check into the Lompoc Valley Lodge for Saturday night.
We then met up with Richard and Karen Bouman and headed back to Buellton for dinner. We went to AJ Spurs Steak House where we met up with Phil and Debra Beuoy, and Richards daughter Carol , husband Paul and son Rudy. This is a place you’ll want to go to. The food was awesome.

We then went back to Lompoc for the night. We had complimentary breakfast at the hotel and then headed out for the car show. Mark ended up heading home and not going to the show as his car had issues and he headed home. We got to the car show around 9:00 A.M. There was a good
showing of cars of all types. There were hot dogs chips and sodas for lunch. Everything was free.(You made a dona- tion if you liked. We ended up leaving for home around 1:30 P.M.. Traffic wasn’t bad and I got home about 4:30 P.M..

You might ask, what does a weekend like this cost. My cost was $115.00 for lodging, $85.00 for Gas and around $100.00 for food----Total $300.00.

I put 380 miles on my car and averaged 13.7 mpg (better than I thought I would do) Bob and Steve’s 390’s also got around 14 mpg Marks 429 was getting around 11 mpg.

All in all we had a great time. Come join us next time.

Hi Everyone:

We had our January meeting at the Upland cable Car and Air show. We meet up with the Southlanders Edsel car club at McDonald’s and caravaned to the show. The weather was a little cool in the morning but it warmed up as the day progressed.

The Southlanders had schedule a Saturday night get together at the Wigwam Motel In Rialto, Ca on Route 66 for July 15th (Check In 3:00 P.M.) till July 16 th (Check Out 12:00 P.M. . They have invited us to join them. PREZ SEZ:

We had our November 20th  club meeting at Twila Reid Park again under the same tree again.  Wouldn’t you know it, we got rained out again. Luckily we had our business taken care of so all was well.

December 11th brought our Club Christmas party at the Sizzler Restaurant. We had a good turnout of around 20 members. WE had a good meal, gift exchange and lots of conversation. Pictures were taken which you can see in the issue of newsletter.

The new and returning Board members were installed, names and pictures in this newsletter. Thanks to last years board member support. A special thanks to Cliff Mierrczynski for the years of putting together and publishing our Newsletter and a number of other tasks he has done. Another thanks goes to Greg de la Pena for stepping up and taking on the responsibilities of the newsletter.

I also want to thank Dave Harkey for his years as Secretary and for Steve Cate taking on those responsibilities.

With the changing of the Guard there also comes growing pains, so I’m asking all to be patient as we grow and learn our responsibilities

Again as I said last month, we need everyone’s support as we make this transition to a new way of operating our club. Again our Goal is to make the club activities more fun and enjoyable. Remember the purpose of a car club is to “Fix, Preserve and Enjoy our Galaxies(and/or Mercurys - Edsels) and share them with others”.

We hold a annual car show once a year known as the "So-Cal Galaxies All Ford Show" previously known as the "Great Galaxie Gathering."Please take time and check out what our web site has to offer and please sign our guestbook.
